The Guard is that department of the Mercedes-Benz which
has been producing armored vehicles for many years now. The very first armored
model is the Mercedes Nürburg presented in 1928. After 1945, the predecessors
of the S-Class had offered an armored version. If you are interested in armored
vehicles you can also find that these models are also called
"panzer", which is a German word and it means "armored".
Nowadays, the most common models which Guard affects are the Mercedes E-Class,
the Mercedes S-Class and of course the Mercedes G-Class.
Mercedes G500 Armored (PANZER) |
In 1999 started a special development stage of Mercedes
models and potential armoring is taken into account. Thus the base version is
prepared to wear armor. This measure of the development of a Mercedes is called
"integral special protection". It gives the car to be prepared for
better armor integration and therefor better protection, instead of additional
modifications.
It doesn't take too much time to put some armor to the
Mercedes G-Model. The very first models which are honored to wear armor are
280GE, 300GE, and 500GE. In 1999, Mercedes presented three versions of armored
G-Class of the G500 with B4, B6, and B7 as the last one is the maximum
protection level. The armored G-Classes are designed not to be easily
recognized from the standard versions. Still, if you are interested in armored
vehicles or if you have a sharp eye you could find out which is standard and
which is an armored car.
Mercedes G-Class Armored |
Most of the automobile brands which offer armored
versions used the top-range models with the most powerful version and that's
why the G500 is an armored model in 1999. This is made because the armor is
heavy and if you had an attack, I'm sure that you will want the take out as
fast as possible. So, you will need a powerful engine that is able to carry the
armor and to give you agility. The 'G is available with maximum protection B6
and B7 from 2001. The weight of the G-Class is increased from 2.4 tons to 3.57
tons for the B6 version and 3.97 tons for the B7 version. The max speed is 160
km/h (99 mph) and the G500 Guard uses a 5.5-liter V8 engine.
The Mercedes G-Class has been in production for 41
years now. Last year the G-Class celebrated 40-years on the production line. In
January 2018 the latest version of the Mercedes G-Class was announced. Do you
