The Bentley Bentayga: The Luxury Goes Off Road

The
Bentley Bentayga has an all new twin-turbocharged 6.0L W12 TSI petrol engine. Its
power is 600 bhp (447 kW) @ 6000 rpm and 900 Nm (663 lb. ft) of torque from
1,250 to 4,500 rpm. The Bentayga stops the watch on 4 sec from 0-60 mph or 4.1
sec if we count from 0-100 km. The top speed is 301 km/h (187 mph).
This
new W12 TSI engine uses both direct and indirect fuel injections. It switches
between the two technologies which deliver low particulate emissions and
maximizes power and torque.
The
Bentayga W12 engine uses Bentley’s Variable Displacement system which shuts
down 6 cylinders. This means that intake and exhaust valves, fuel injection and
ignition are shut down on defined cylinders. It’s under defined conditions. Then
the engine works with 6-cylinder and improves the efficiency.

The
Bentley Bentayga has 8-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel-drive
system. They have been strengthened to handle the demands and high torque
levels of off-road driving.

The
Bentley used a similar system which is available in the Trabant 601. The old
DDR Trabant has a gear called “freilauf” (German) or “freewheel” (English)
which unengaged the engine and the transmission. Then the car is just roll or
“sail” on the road. The similar system works between 5th to 8th
gears in Bentayga. When the driver releases the throttle then the car will open
the torque converter, dropping the engine to idle. When the driver push again
the throttle pedal or the Bentayga starts going downhill and detects an
increase in speed the transmission is re-engaged. The Bentley is an English
brand but it’s made by Germans.
In
the future there also will be available diesel and hybrid variants for the
Bentley Bentayga.
After the engine the most interesting information is about the technologies which the British SUV offers. The Bentley Bentayga has on- and off-road drive settings via Bentley’s Drive Dynamics Mode and optional Responsive Off-Road Settings. There are up to 8 modes which allow the driver to select the right dynamic set-up for any surface or road condition. The Bentley Dynamic Ride (electrically activated 48V active roll control) and Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) just complete the Bentley Drive Dynamics. The Driver Information Panel displays the information on pitch, roll, wheel articulation, steering angle, compass bearing and altitude.
This
luxurious SUV from Bentley has Adaptive Cruse Control (ACC) including Stop and
Go system; a Predictive ACC and Traffic Assist. The Predictive ACC system uses
the navigation data, sensors and cameras to predict upcoming corners, city
boundaries and speed-limits. Thus it can modify the Bentayga’s speed. The Traffic Assist gives to the driver the
option to set the distance to the vehicle in front.
The
Bentley’s Stop and Go system is a little bit improved. It stops the engine not
only on complete stop position of the vehicle but also at “near to stop” speed.
The
Bentley Bentayga has system which will help you in city driving. The Traffic
Sign Recognition detects a wide variety of traffic sing and displays the
information to the driver. The Rear Crossing Traffic Warning which detects
crossing traffic on backward driving is well known. Bentayga has Top View
system which use 4 cameras and display the surrounding around the British
luxurious SUV.
If
somebody has troubles with parking maneuvers there is a Park Assist system for
both parallel and perpendicular spaces. From Bentley said that the autonomous
steering takes over to support even in narrow and tricky parking spaces.
The
Electronic Night Vision is also available in the new Bentley Bentayga. This
system uses infrared technology to identify people, animals and everything else
in the dark times of the day.
The
infotainment system is all-new. It has 8” touch screen display and a 60GB hard
drive. There are up to 30 languages which are available in Bentayga
infotainment system. Does the Bulgarian is one of them?!

There
is infotainment system and for the rear seats. They called it Bentley
Entertainment Tablet. Actually, there are two removable 10.2” Android devices
which are placed on the back side of the front headrest. These tablets have 4G,
WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The
Bentley Bentayga offers three different sound systems: Bentley Standard Audio,
Bentley Signature Audio and Naim for Bentley Premium Audio. The last one is the
most powerful audio system which has 1,950 watts, 18 speakers and
super-tweeters for unrivaled recreation of the highest audio frequencies.
I
think that it isn’t necessary to mentioned that Bentayga has a Head-Up Display.

As
a four-wheel-drive SUV Bentayga has Hill Descent Control (HDC). It
automatically controls the speed of the car on steep declines. It can be
pre-set between 2 and 30 km/h (1.24 and 18.64 mph) in both front and rear
directions.

In
the middle console near-by the gear stick there is Bentley Bentayga’s
multi-mode air suspension switch. The driver could select between High 2, High
1, Normal and Low modes. If you are driving off-road and you’ve need more
clearance then select High 2. The Low mode will be useful driving on highway
for instance.

General the Bentley Bentayga has very own and distinguished exterior design.
The round headlights are emblem for Bentley. They are full LED. The fenders are
little bit extended and this gives to the car more muscular vision. The wheel
arcs are large because the Bentayga could wear from 20” to 22” alloy wheels.

On

the rear view the design is also clear as on front. The taillights in B-shape
make an impression.

If
you already like thus super luxurious British SUV Bentley Bentayga, you can
choose between 17 exterior paint colors. There are up to 90 hues available in
the extended range; 15 luxurious carpet options, 7 different handcrafted
veneers and 15 interior trim hide variants.
The
inspiration for the Bentayga’s interior comes from the Bentley’s wings on the
logo. They used the main lines of the logo to build this new dashboard design
from door to door. Inside the Bentayga has a lot details handmade with
precision. The new seats have been designed
from scratch, combining smooth leather with diamond-quilted hide in a design
inspired by finely tailored hunting jackets.

The Bentley Bentayga had a lot of tests across five continents;
from the dirt gravel of South Africa and the dunes of Dubai, to the muddy fields
of Cheshire; from -30 degrees Celsius in the frozen North Cape to the warm 50
degrees Celsius in the desert.
Another test was at the Nurburgring Nordsheleife
circuit. There the Bentayga has driven more than 400 laps in order to develop
the dynamic performance of the chassis and fine-tuning the relevant control and
stability systems.
It has to be most powerful SUV in the world. The
deliveries of the Bentley Bentayga will start in early 2016.
