BMW X1 xDrive25i - Sport Line - Dakota leather Black with perforation and Red stitching - Interior trim, Fine Brushed Aluminium with Coral Red accent
When I saw the new BMW X1 I thought that it will be very narrow inside. I really don’t know why such a thought come in my mind but when I sat in the new X1 I was surprised. The space of the front seat is enough, not too tight and not too large – it's just enough. I had an opportunity to travel on the rear seat. There was the biggest surprise the knee room on the rear seats is huge and this makes the traveling more comfortable, even that the headroom on the rear seats is decreased with 6 mm (0.24 in). For a tallest man, the rear seats headroom probably won’t be enough. 2016 BMW X1 Dakota leather Mocca with perforation - Interior trim, Oak wood with Pearl-gloss Chrome accent line |

2016 BMW X1 xDrive25i - rear seats Dakota leather Black with perforation and Red stitching - Interior trim, Fine Brush The rear seats could be folded down with standard 40:20:40-split rear seats. The 60:40-split-bench is optional equipment. The rear seats can be a slide for- or backward up to 130 mm (5.12 in). This allows for more seating comfort or storage space. The trunk space of the new BMW X1 is 505 liters; it’s 85 litters more spacious in comparison to the previous model. The trunk space of the new model could be increased up to 1550 liters by folding down the rear seats. The folding down of the rear seats can be made electrically by a button in the trunk. Additionally, the front passenger backrest can also be folded down for more space. | 2016 BMW X1 the trunk and all folded seats

2016 BMW X1 my opinion about the trunk is that it isn't so spacious as it looks on the picture

The interior is totally changed, excepting the instrumental cluster. Inside the new BMW X1 has a new dashboard and new middle console. They make more impression. On the bottom part of the middle console there are two cup holders covered by sliding cover. The door pockets of the new BMW X1 offers space enough for 1L bottles.

2016 BMW X1 M Sport package |
2016 BMW X1 M logo on the steering-wheel The tested model has and color head-up display. But! Because I’m short man I have to lift myself to reach the direct view of it. That’s why for me such an extra will be unusable. Probably, for the little bit more tall man, the position of the head-up display will be ok. |
2016 BMW X1 white and blue models going to the ramps The tested model which I had the opportunity to drive was the BMW X1 xDrive25i. This model was equipped with the most powerful petrol engine xDrive25i. Fortunately, it accelerates very fast and it has very nice and reach sound. It’s a real pleasure to accelerate the new xDrive25i. The power of this engine is 231 hp @ 5000 – 6000 rpm and the max torque is 350 Nm (258 ft.lb) @ 1250 – 4500 rpm. It’s powerful and agile engine but it’s not sporty. However, if you are going to make overtake with the new BMW X1 xDrive25i – don’t worry you’ll make it. |
2016 BMW X1 front and side view The tested BMW X1 xDrive25i was equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The gears are changing smoothly and there isn’t any lag between the gears. In case, that you have to accelerate very fast and hit the accelerator pedal, in these situations the BMW X1 xDrive25i is a very responsible vehicle and also there isn’t any lag. If you like the manual transmission, BMW X1 offers and 6-speed manual gearbox or to change the gears of the automatic transmission with shift paddles behind the steering wheel. Both transmissions are newly developed.

About the engines, there are a few things that shocked me. First, the new BMW X1 sDrive models are with front-wheel drive. When we talk about the BMW I always make connection with the rear-wheel-drive but the world is changed. Second, the sDrive18i and sDrive16d are 3-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. That part with the engines is less shocked. This is the second model of BMW (2 Series Active Tourer) with front-wheel drive and it’s a trauma for me. |
2016 BMW X1 blue model on the ramp The xDrive system of the new BMW X1 in normal driving situations sent the power to the front wheels. Usually, when a wheel or wheels lose traction the power of the engine is separate between the front and rear axle. If the X1 lost traction, the hang-on clutch and an electrohydraulic pump can divert up to 100% of the engine’s power to the rear wheels. This happens very fast and you couldn’t feel it. |
2016 BMW X1 flying wheel Personally for me, the BMW xDrive system gives you some kind of insurance on the road. The BMW X1 isn’t an off-road vehicle and the 4x4 system which it has is to get you out of situations. This all-wheel-drive system helps you on the wet roads, ice on the road and in situation where you will need more traction. |
2016 BMW X1 going down from the ramp The intelligent xDrive system for the new BMW X1 is also updated. It’s compact, low-weight and efficient. The xDrive system is connected to the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) which allows the system to follow does the car oversteer or understeer. In such situation the system diverting power to the wheel or wheels where it can be apply to the road for maximum effect. You can activate using a button Hill Descent Control in your BMW X1. It’s a system which is included with DSC and the xDrive. | 2016 BMW X1 in action
The DSC system includes other systems as: Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Brake Assist system, Fading Compensation, a Dry Braking function and a Start-Off Assistant. That’s not all systems in the new BMW X1 there are the trailer stabilization function, Active Differential Brake (ADB) function and Performance Control. If you deactivate the DSC, an electronic locking function for the front axle differential (known as Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC)) will be activated. In tight corners it applies brake effort to the spinning wheel as required and ensures power is diverted to the other wheel. |
2016 BMW X1 on the small ramps Your new BMW X1 has totally new chassis technology. The new X1 has single-joint strut suspension at the front and a multi-link rear axle. The front axle carries are made from high-strength steel. The swivel bearing are made from aluminum. The rear axle is also made from high-strength steel. The new BMW X1 has two tube-shaped anti-roll bars for both axles. This anti-roll bar has innovative axle mounting. The new suspension of the new BMW X1 has to make this crossover more stable in agile cornering and ride comfort. The dampers of the new X1 have sophisticated three-way support mounts for the connection to the body. |
2016 BMW X1 white model going off from the ramp |
The bad thing here is this sophisticated three-way support mounts of the dampers, because the changing the old dampers with new will be expensive procedure when the time comes. Hope that you’ll not have troubles with the dampers in the years while you’re using a BMW X1. I’ll wish luck and to the next owners. |
2016 BMW X1 rear and side view of the white model As standard the new BMW X1 comes with Servotronic speed steering assistance. The Variable Sports Steering is new item on the option list. So, the Variable Sports Steering allows parking and turning-off maneuvers to be completed safely and comfortably with little steering effort. At the higher speeds you can look forward to the steering precision and straight line stability. The new BMW X1 offers and M Sport suspension as a special option which decrease height with 10 mm (0.39 in). |
2016 BMW X1 front and rear view blue and white models For me, this M Sport suspension doesn’t matter. If somebody looking for a Sport Activity Vehicle, he will look for more clearance. Why then for such car is necessary lower suspension? This could be discussion for tuning topic and more powerful engine.
The BMW X1 has Dynamic Damper Control system. This new gadget for the new X1 electronically controls the dampers in order to improve the primary and secondary ride of the BMW X1. These two damper control settings can be activated using the Driving Experience Control switch. |
2016 BMW X1 iDrive joystick
The Driving Experience Control switch is placed on the middle console. It gives you to set up the driving character of your BMW X1. There are three options called Comfort, Sport and ECO PRO. When you select some mode the acceleration pedal, the shifting of the gears, the steering and damper setting will be changed, if the relevant equipment has been specified. |
The new BMW X1 is offered with standard 17-inch light-alloy wheels. Additional equipment includes other light alloy wheels in 17, 18 and 19-inch rims.
The BMW always integrate some techniques in their models. The BMW X1 has on-demand cooling. This is a technique which can shut off the air flaps in the BMW kidney grille when the cooling requirement is low. |
2016 BMW X1 ready for the short trip
How the BMW's on-demand cooling air flaps are useful for you? Everyone go to work every morning form Monday to Friday. In the morning and after work, the engine is cold and there are several kilometers for the engine to reach its operating temperature. The on-demand air flaps of the BMW lower these kilometers because when the air flaps are closed they stop the air to enter the engine room which isn't necessary for any cold engine. Thus the engine room is some kind of closed space without or less external air and the engine reach the operating temperature faster. This safe you fuel. When the engine needs to be cool the air flap will be open. |
The drag coefficient (Cd) of the new BMW X1 is 0.29 depending for the current X1 version. This is made by using under body paneling, air deflectors on the front-wheel arches and vertical aero blades. All of these techniques are made to be the BMW X1 with low air resistance which also safes you fuel. |
2016 BMW X1 driver seat with the new middle console; sliding cover for the cup holders on the bottom of the middle console The standard equipment of the new BMW X1 includes high-resolution 6.5-inch color display, audio system with six loudspeakers and an AUX-in socket and USB interface, a hands-free facility for telephones, the Driving Experience Control switch and air-conditioning. Moreover, fog lamps, controlled central locking and keyless engine ignition, electric window controls, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, a leather steering wheel adjustable for height and reach and a rain sensor including automatic headlight control are also included in the standard equipment of the new X1. |
2016 BMW X1 downhill blue model The new BMW X1 offers four additional equipment levels called Advantage, Sport Line, xLine and M Sport. The tested model was equipped with M Sport package. The M-logo was almost everywhere in the on the bottom of the steering-wheel on the driver’s foot rest. The M Sport offers special steering-wheel.
If you love music the new BMW X1 offers as additional equipment Harman Kardon HiFi system, complete with 12 loudspeakers and a digital amplifier with 360-watt output. As an option for your BMW X1 there is a Panorama glass roof, if you want to count the stars. |
2016 BMW X1 blue model at passenger terminal port Varna
If your new BMW X1 has multifunctional steering-wheel you can input the address in the navigation system using your voice. The Navigation Plus system offers 8.8-inch, Control Display with split-screen function, an instrumental cluster with extended features and BMW Head-Up display. |
|
2016 BMW X1 Generation X Embrace the Unknown The BMW X1 also offers systems which support the driver and driving. The Driving Assistant includes Lane Departure Warning. Additional, the Driving Assistant includes Speed Limit Info with No Passing Info display, the BMW Selective Beam anti-dazzle High Beam assistant, Collision Warning and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking function. That’s not all; the Driving Assistant Plus includes Active Cruise Control system with Stop& Go function. The Traffic Jam Assistant is function which keeps the proximity control and lane-keeping task form the driver. This system works up to 60 km/h (37 mph). |
|
2016 BMW X1 the tailgate There is a vibration in the steering-wheel if you are going to left the lane. I do test this function and it works. Another interesting thing here is that the Traffic Jam Assistant uses steering assistance to keep the car in the middle of its lane but you have to handle the steering-wheel using at least one hand. If you don’t use a hand the Traffic Jam Assistance will not work. |
2016 BMW X1 white model left and rear sides Finally, the new BMW X1 is better than the old version. It has more space inside and according to outside only the wheel-base is decreased. The news is that the sDrive models have front-wheel drive. I don’t think that somebody will buy a BMW X1 with front-wheel-drive. The price of the BMW X1 is higher, even that it’s a premium crossover. The Honda CR-V, which is more SUV than a crossover vehicle, base price is almost $11 000 cheaper than the BMW X1. |
2016 BMW X1 from the top Now you can watch what are the challenges at the presentation of the new BMW X1 Embrace The Unknown. Everybody who wanted to test the new BMW X1 had to drive through the ramps. There was also and short tripping which included city, highway and country driving.
