The Most Powerful Version of the BMW X4 M40i

If you have read the last article about the BMW X4 you could know that I don’t understand the X4 and X6 models. But the BMW X4 M40i is a special model so, it needs special attention.

The BMW X4 M40i could be distinguished from the standard version from the famous BMW’s vertical struts kidney grille painted in exclusive Ferric Grey.  The mirrors are also paint in the same Ferric Grey color. On the front bumper the BMW X4 M40i has distinguished elements on the air intake using the same special color. The M-badge is placed on the special 20 inch rims, on the front fender but on the tailgate there is an inscription X4 M40i. If you want there are options which allow you to remove the M logo from you X4 thus you could hide the sportier character of your BMW X4. These options are free of charge for Bulgarian market but I think that it’s the same around the world.

Open the driver’s door and there is an inscription which says Welcome with the letters “X4 M40i”. Your BMW X4 M40i wants to not forget what your car is. It shows you X4 M40i on the instrumental cluster when the vehicle is unlocked and remains visible when driving.  M-Performance BMW X4 M40i engine

The BMW X4 M40i has M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology which includes TwinScroll Turbocharger, High Precision Direct Injection, Valvletronic fully variable valve control, double VANOS variable camshaft. The M40i is a petrol in-line 6-cylinder engine with 4 valves per cylinder. The engine volume is 2979 cc; it produces 360 hp @ 5800-6000 rpm and max torque is 465 Nm (343 lb-ft) @ 1350-5250 rpm. The engine is mated to 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s the only one available gearbox for this engine.

The BMW X4 M40i has increased camber on the double-joint front axle and the strengthening of the wishbones. This gives to the X4 M40i model more sensitive steering response and more neutral self-steering behavior. The driving dynamics are optimized with stiffer springs and reinforced stabilizers on front and rear axles. Thus the BMW X4 M40i has to be more stable in the driving. The X4 M40i is equipped with M-Performance electronically controlled damping system.

The BMW X4 M40i's intelligent xDrive (four-wheel drive) system has more rear-wheel drive characteristics. This means the your BMW X4 M40i xDrive system all the time controls the distribution of drive torque between the front and rear axles depending of the situations. The M40i is the most powerful engine for the BMW X4, that's why it has the emblematic for BMW  rear-wheel drive characteristic for its xDrive system.

As standard equipment, the BMW X4 M40i is fitted with a 19-inch Michelin Primacy Runflat tire mix with 245/45 R19 tires on 8.5 J x 19-inch light-alloy wheels for the front axle and 275/40 R19 tires on 9.5 J x 19-inch light-alloy wheels for the rear axle.

The special equipment for BMW X4 M40i includes new two-tone 20-inch double-spoke light-alloy wheels 8.5J x 20 for front and 10J x 20 for rear Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. This Ultra High Performance tire size is 245/40 R20 for front wheels and 275/35 R20 for the rear wheels.
