2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 NASCAR CUP Race Car was Unveiled

The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 NASCAR CUP Race Car was unveiled at Chevrolet’s headquarters in Detroit on August 10, 2017. Seven-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson driver of the #48 Lowe’s Chevrolet for Hendrick Motosports joined Mark Reuss, executive vice president of GM Global Product Development, to reveal the new race car.

The ZL1 name was used for the very first time in the 1960s on a Chevrolet-developed all-aluminum racing engine that become a dominating force in road racing. A few enterprising dealers ordered the ZL1 engine in 1969. They installed the ZL1 engine in 69 regular-production Camaros and these cars become legends on the street and dragship. The new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is reintroduced more than 40 years later as the ultimate performance Camaro.

The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has supercharged engine featuring a similar 90-degree V-8 configuration as the Cup racing engines. Its power is 650 hp.

The new Camaro ZL1 bears the winning spirit of the previous Chevrolet SS. It has 70 Cup Series wins to date and contributed to Chevrolet earning a recorded 39 NASCAR manufacture titles - including 13 consecutive titles from 2003-2015.
