The Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler Won the Formula E Championship in an Incredible Way
The
Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler Team made an incredible presentation in the Formula E
Championship. Last weekend July 14-15,
2018 in New York City the final races of the Formula E were held. The Audi
Sport ABT Schaeffler Team had 33 points difference before the Saturday’s race.
After that with one-two final made by Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt the point difference was set to 5. The
Sunday’s race was heart-stopping but the success is already here. Phew!

Last race weekend the
Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler Team made four podium positions and earned 78 of a
max of 94 possible points. For the two racing days they melt down the 33-points difference to
5. After the Sunday’s race they achieved 2 points advantage.
Lucas di Grassi finished on the second place
after 43 laps around the street circuit in Brooklyn. In the very first races di
Grassi couldn’t take any points. The success for him started from the sixth
race onwards as he took his place on the podium after every race. Thus he grabbed
the championship runner-up spot with his seventh consecutive podium result.

“No points in four of the races and now I’m
second in the drivers’ classification – this is a small miracle. It still
turned out to be an exceptional season for me and also our team. We never give
up and winning the teams’ title after such an incredible comeback is the best
proof of this,” explained Lucas di Grassi.

Lucas di Grassi has been participating since
the beginning of the Formula E Championship in 2014. He scored 611 points and
27 podiums for the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler – in both instances, more than any
other driver in the electric racing series.
Daniel
Abt made two best lap times in a roll for the both racing days. He finished 3rd
in the Sunday’s race and the best lap time gave him an extra point. Daniel Abt
scored 15 points and thus he added significant points to the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler
Team for the teams’ classification in the Formula E Championship. Daniel Abt made
the fastest race laps in this season. Thus the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler achieved seven times record in twelve races among the teams.

“We
had a big goal and we achieved it. What a comeback – I’m happy and delighted
for the entire team. And this includes people not at the track, but also every
partner and employee in Ingolstadt, Neuburg and Kempten,” explained Daniel Abt.

Daniel
Abt completed the Formula E Championship with 120 points, two wins and two
further podium results in New York. He also made his best successful season in
Formula E in four years by far. Abt finished fifth in the drivers’
classification.
Team
Principal Allan McNish explained:
Yes,
we were biting our nails all the way to the last corner and the final second of
the race, but now it’s reality: Teams’ Champions! I'll now give Lucas and Daniel
a big hug. This season was up and down, and they always did their best. Also,
today when a push came to a shove, they delivered the goods. A big thank you
also goes to our base camp in Germany. Great job.”

new prototype Audi e-tron FE05 was presented on Saturday evening by the
technology partner Schaeffler. They invited almost 300 guests including the
German Ambassador to the U.S. Dr. Emily Haber – to one of the typical New York
rooftops.
