Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Reopens Production Lines |
FCA restarts its production at
the Sevel Plant in Atessa, Italy. It’s a joint venture production plant with
PSA Group (Peugeot/Citroën/Opel) for commercial vehicles for the international market.
Over 6,000 people have returned to their work environment which forces the
companies to take a variety of health and safety measures that includes
sanitization on the workshop floor of over 300,000 m2 (3,229,173.13
sq. ft). Fiat Chrysler Automobiles also has been installed around 130
dispensers of hand sanitizer; 15 large billboards and 25 video monitors in
order to post prevention information; distributed over 6,000 information brochures
and 18,000 posters; installation of body temperature monitoring cameras at the plant entrances and over 600 points equipped with disinfectant materials for
employees to clean the equipment they use during the shifts.
These are only one part of the
measures that the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has taken according to the
agreement with the Italian trade unions FIM-CISL, UILM-UIL, FISMIC, UGLM, AQCFR
and FIOM-CGIL that is signed on April 9, 2020. The agreement sets a vast series
of measures for all FCA sites in Italy in order to ensure maximum protection of
the people following the restart of the production activities that were interrupted
due to COVID-19 in the middle of March 2020.

Pietro Gorlier, COO
for FCA's EMEA region, said:
At the Sevel plant in Atessa today, we have demonstrated that
protecting our workers is our main priority. Today's reopening of the Sevel
plant, together with R&D activities and pre-series production of electric
and hybrid models in Turin and Melfi, is the result of rigorous analysis and
preparation carried out in collaboration with leading virologists and other
experts and agreed with all trade unions. We have been working daily with the
Italian government and local authorities to prepare for a return to production
in Italy, while ensuring there is no compromise to the safety of anyone working
at any of our production facilities or offices.

Other measurements for reopening the
production line at Sevel plant included once again full cleaning and
sanitization activities that covered 18 rest areas, 52 toilets, 29 changing
rooms with over 7,400 lockers, 2 medical rooms, and 4 cafeterias. The dining
occupancies are reduced and the opening hours are extended so that the minimum
requested distance of one meter between individuals to be fulfilled.
The situation requires more
safety training to be made which is typically every business anyway but now these trainings are going to be more frequent. However, at the Sevel plant every
employee has received a personal kit with surgical masks and gloves (to be
replenished daily), and also a pair of safety glasses to be worn when cleaning
their individual workstations. People who use public transport to and from work
receive an additional mask for these trips.
