The Chevy Malibu which reached 10 million milestones

1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS Convertible
The first model Chevrolet Malibu was produced between 1964 and 1972. It was offered in all body styles: four-door sedan, two door Sport Coupe hardtop, convertible and two-seat station wagon. Chevrolet Malibu was introduced as top model of new midsize range. The sales were over 200,000 in first year.

The first Chevrolet Malibu has 6-cylinder or V8 engine. The max output power was 300 hp. In 1965 Chevrolet Malibu has a facelift version. The most powerful engine offered 350 hp.



1964 Chevrolet-Malibu 200
In 1966 the new Chevelle SS-396 replaced the Malibu. The model indication – 396 is from the engine displacement: 396-cubic inch which means 6.5 L V8 engine.
Chevelle Malibu Concours station wagon with woody sides was build in 1967. Its engine was 327-cubic inch (5.4 L) V8 engine. The power was dropped from 350 hp (model-327 in 1965) to 325 hp. Chevelle Malibu Concours station wagon from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) made in 6.2 seconds.

The second generation of Chevrolet Malibu was from 1968 to 1972. This model was also called Chevrolet Chevelle. The body styles were 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe and convertible. The engines which Chevrolet Malibu used were: 307-cubic-inch (5.0 L) V8 200 hp (150 kW); 283-cubic-inch (4.6 L) V8.

In 1969 Malibu was equipped with the same engine as in the beginning 307-cubic-inch (5.0 L) V8 200 hp (150 kW) but the 327 engine is replaced by the new 350-cubic-inch (5.7 L) V8 with power 255 hp (190 kW) and 300 hp (224 kW).

1973 Chevrolet Malibu Colonnade
New engines were presented in 1970. The displacement of the 6-cylinder engine was upped from 230-cubic-inch (3.8 L) to 250-cubic-inch (4.1 L) with 155 hp. The 350-cubic-inch (5.7 L) V8 engine power was reach to 330 hp (250 kW). Another 400-cubic-inch (6.6 L) V8 also was available but it wasn’t offered from SS Chevelle models.

The third generation produced from 1973 to 1977. The Malibu was available in coupe, sedan and wagon body styles. The Malibu became the entry-level Chevelle model in 1974.

1983 Chevrolet Malibu


The fourth generation was produced from 1978 to 1983. In this period were presented Chevrolet 90° V6 engines. The displacements were 200 CID (3.3 L) V6 a base engine for 1978 Chevrolet Malibu. The 229 CID (3.9 L) V6 was another engine. The most powerful engine was 305 CID (5.0 L) V8 and was offered as option.

1997 Chevrolet Malibu C

Chevrolet Malibu was out from production after 1983. Its reborn was in 1997 when was presented four-door sedan with 4-cylinder engine, producing 150 hp (112 kW) and a V6 engine with 155 hp (115 kW).

After 51 years and 14 years pause the Chevy Malibu reached 10 million milestones. Malibu is sold in more than 25 markets around the world. The main markets of Chevrolet Malibu are United States, China and Korea. They make more than 90% of the sales.

It is a car that has resonated with customers for more than half a century.”


2016 Chevrolet Malibu
Nowadays, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is about 101 mm (4 in) longer and about 136 kg (300 pounds) lighter than the previous model. The Malibu has standard 1.5L turbo engine which consumes 37 mpg highway start and stop system. The hybrid version offers 48 mpg city, 45 mpg highway – and 47 mpg combined fuel consumption.
