The name of the 2017 Ford GT speaks by itself. My memories of the Ford GT start in the mid 90’s when I played the Need for Speed II. In the game, one of the cars which you could drive was Ford GT. It was a long time ago and I’m not so sure but maybe it was a concept version. Anyway, this legend was made in 1966 when the Ford GT40 was presented. Now it’s a very expensive old car and the new GT is comming.

This year Ford GT has 50-years anniversary. The goal of the Ford GT is to win one of the most prestigious automobile races – 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1966 the first three positions were taken by Ford GT40. The victory of 24 Hours of Le Mans was repeated in 1967, 1968, and 1969. Does Ford GT will repeat the wins, we will see…

The road version of the Ford GT has a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. It will be mated to an automatic 7-speed dual-clutch transaxle. The GT engine has an all-new direct dual fuel-injection setup which has to improve engine response, plus a low-friction roller-finger-follower valvetrain. The engine of the new Ford GT is mid-placed and this sports car has rear-wheel drive.

The new Ford GT enters the club of Ford Focus RS, F-150 Raptor, Shelby GT350, and Shelby GT350R. The Ford Performance lineup will grow up and the new GT is one of more than 12 new sports vehicles which will come by 2020.

The two-seat passenger cell is made of carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is one of the strongest materials for its mass. Using such materials the new Ford GT has to reach one of the best power-to-weight ratios in comparison to other production cars. Aluminum is another lightweight material used for front and rear subframes. Using lightweight materials, the acceleration, handling, braking, safety, efficiency should be improved the sporty character of the new Ford GT.
