Designers Vs. Engineers: Kia Stonic

The Kia attacks the B-SUV segment with the new crossover Stonic. The concept pictures of the new Kia Stonic was published on June 7th, 2017. Then the producer said that the new name of the Kia comes from “Speedy” and “Tonic” which combination makes Stonic.

Today, the Kia reveals the technical information about the Stonic. Unfortunately, as I thought, the designer wanted to create a sporty SUV in B-SUV segment but the engineers put engines which have volumes as a water bottle.

The Kia Stonic has 1.0 L, 1.25 L, 1.4 petrol engines and a 1.6 L diesel engine.

The Kia Stonic has lightweight and (pay attention) !DOWNSIZED! turbocharged petrol and diesel engines for a car which name comes from “Speedy” and “Tonic”. The first petrol engine is 1.0 L T-GDI (turbocharged gasoline direct injection) engine with 120 ps. The others two petrol engines are 1.25 L and 1.4 L naturally-aspirated multi-point injection (MPI) but the producer misses to mention what is their power. The diesel version of the Kia Stonic has 1.6 L engine with lowest emissions compared to the petrol engines.

The Kia Stonic looks very good in yellow color and black roof. If the yellow color comes as standard the Stonic may be good for a taxi cab.

The Kia Stonic is designed in Europe in collaboration with Kia's Korean design studio. The new Stonic offers 20 two-tone colour combinations with a choice of five distinctive colors for the roof.

The Kia Stonic`s to offer an exciting drive with immediate handling responses and a stable ride. The Stonic`s standard equipment includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM). It includes Torque Vectoring by Braking, Straight Line Stability and Cornering Brake Control.

Inside the Kia Stonic also has vivid colour packs as for the exterior. The standard Stonic equipment includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The other technologies in the Kia Stonic includes heated front seats, automatic cruise control and keyless entry.

The Kia Stonic has similar lines on the rear window with Skoda Fabia.

This is how Skoda Fabia's rear window looks like.
Technically, the Kia Stonic is build on a strong, safe and lightweight platform and body shell using Advanced High Strength Steel which is 51% of used materials.

If you like the new Kia Stonic you can choose a variety of systems as Kia`s DRiVE WISE Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). It’s active safety technologies which include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian recognition - on your responsibility; Forward Collision Alert (FCA); Blind Spot Detection (BSD) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA); Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and Driver Attention Warning (DAW).

The Kia Stonic has 352 L trunk space.
