The Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda AT02 Car
At the beginning of the new season of Formula 1, I’m going to preview all the cars that are going to race. The first reviewed car was the W12 of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Team. Today it’s time for full specification of the Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda AT02.

The official car name or the chassis is the AT02 so I’m going to use that short name from time to time. I’ll begin with the chassis because it’s the fundamental element of the car. It carries everything like the driver’s survival cell, the power unit, transmission, suspension, bodyworks, the front and the rear wings, and the floor. The floor is one of the important parts of the Formula One cars because of the aerodynamics and the engineering teams spend a lot of hours developing that particular part of the car. The chassis is made of carbon composite monocoque by Scuderia AlphaTauri.
The AT02 uses an all-new front suspension which
has carbon composite wishbones, pushrod, trackrod, and upright assemblies, and
all that jazz created by Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda. The front suspension of the
AT02 also uses suspension rockers, torsion bars, and dampers by Red Bull
Technology.
Scuderia Alpha Tauri Honda uses last year’s Red
Bull Racing rear suspension made by Red Bull Technology. The rear suspension of
the AT02 has carbon composite wishbones with pullrod operated inboard torsion
bars and dampers.

The AT02 of the Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda team uses Scuderia AlphaTauri and Red Bull Technology brake system. The front and the rear brake ducts are made by Scuderia AlphaTauri.
The driver’s seat is made of specific carbon
composite by Scuderia AlphaTauri.

The engine of the Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda AT02 is a Honda RA621H engine. It’s a 1.6L V6 power unit. The fuel system is made by Scuderia AlphaTauri and Red Bull Technology. The exhaust system of the AT02 is created by Honda.
The gearbox is 8-speed and the team bets on the
last year’s Red Bull Racing transmission made by Red Bull Technology. The
gearbox has a carbon composite maincase longitudinally mounted. The
transmission shifting is hydraulically actuated. The differential is
hydraulically actuated multi-plate; the clutch is hydraulically actuated carbon
multi-plate.
The AT02 has Scuderia AlphaTauri/Red Bull
Technology power-assisted steering. The minimum weight of the car is 752 kg.
The tyre supplier for the 2021 Formula One
Championship is Pirelli. So, the AT02 and all other F1 cars will have 5 different
tyre options. The colors of the tires for the 2021 season of F1 are:
Hard in white color;
Medium in yellow color;
Soft in red color;
Extreme wet in blue color;
Intermediate wet in green color.
In 2021 the tires have different construction
and they are slightly heavier compared to the last season Pirelli’s tyres. Thus
increase in the tires’ weight affects the minimum weight of the car. In the Formula
One Championship, everything matters. This is the masterpiece of car
making. The cars in F1 have to be fast,
have to last for a long period at the max workload. Here, the tires make that grip
to the track and the driver has to stop fast and to avoid, if possible, locking
the tyres. The different tyre types give different times on the tracks and here
the strategy of the teams begins. What type of tires? For how long the tires
could give as much as possible traction? How many PIT stops? What’s the
temperature of the tires? …. and so many questions.
As everything matters in this type of car, the
main resistance is the airflow. So that the aerodynamics can help. The Scuderia
AlphaTauri Honda AT02 has very strong aerodynamics development using the two
tokens available for a new nose. Due to the aerodynamics development, the front
suspension of the AT02 is also changed. All AT02 surfaces that have contact
with the airflow like the bodywork, the wings, etc. are in-house produced by the
Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda team.
