The main reason is that these guys in BMW are petrolheads. Maybe it was a little bit difficult for them to get used to the idea of 3-cylinder engines and front-wheel drive and a small van-like car to compete for not even the B-Class but as well as the Honda Jazz (Honda Life, Honda Fit – all names of the same model). They are petrolheads but I do think that their motorsport participation is very limited and mostly by private teams.
