The Sporty Pedigree of The BMW M4 CSL
The 2023 BMW M4 CSL bears that sporty pedigree
from the BMW 3.0 CSL that won the European Touring Car Championship at the
first attempt in 1973. The all-new M4 CSL sports character is a nice
continuation of the earlier BMW M3, and the M4 models as well as some of the
most legendary 2003 BMW M3 CSL and the modern 2016 BMW M4 GTS.

What’s The DIN Curb Weight of The New BMW M4 CSL?
The DIN curb weight of the new M4 CSL is 1,650 kg.
The power-to-weight ratio is 2.95 kilograms per hp or 4.01 kg/kW.

Using M Carbon full bucket seats
saves around 24 kilograms compared to the standard seats of the BMW M4
Competition Coupe. Removing the rear seats and the seat belts saves another 21
kilograms. The changes in the chassis that include special light-alloy springs
and sturts, plus the extra-lightweight M Carbon ceramic brakes and the
light-alloy wheels save around 21 kg. The soundproofing from the M4 CSL is
removed and for the sound-insulation is used ultra-lightweight material. These
features lead to 15 kg out of the weight. Using the carbon-fiber-reinforced
plastic (so-called CFRP) for the roof, the hood, the boot lid, and the center
console save another 11 kg. The rear silencers are made from titanium and thus
more than 4 kg are deducted. The BMW kidney grille, rear lights, floor mats,
and the automatic climate control are modified so that another 4 kg to be
saved.

How Many Colors Are Available for the 2023 BMW M4 CSL?
This paint on the BMW M4 CSL is
exclusive Frozen Brooklyn Grey metallic that goes as standard. There are two
other colors to choose from the Alpine White solid and the Sapphire Black
metallic. Red accent lines are added to the chiseled indents on the roof, side
sills, the black model badges, the model-specific CFRP splitters, and air curtain
inserts in the front apron.

The BMW Laserlight Technology in the BMW M4 CSL
These BMW Laserlight headlights
are optionally available as this yellow illumination is special for the all-new
BMW M4 CSL. The yellow illumination of the headlights is inspired by the GT
racing cars and it’s in use when the car is unlocked as well as on low and high
beams.

On the rear LED lights you can
see the complex illuminated light threads woven into the glass covers. These
woven threads are illuminated using laser technology. This technology makes its
debut in a series-produced car. Thus the taillights of the 2023 BMW M4 CSL are
highly distinctive.

What’s the BMW M4 CSL Engine and How Much Horse Power does it have?
The BMW M4 CSL has 3-liter,
6-cylnder in-line M TwinPower Turbo engine. It’s a high-rev engine that
produces 550 hp @ 6,250 rpm and the max torque is 650 Nm or 479 lb-ft within
the range of 2,750 and 5,950 rpm. The two mono-scroll turbochargers received an
increase from 1.7 to 2.1 bar which is the fundamental part of the power boost. A
brief power comparison to the BMW M4 that has 480 hp; 550 Nm / 405 lb-ft and
the M4 Competition has 510 hp as this one has the same max torque as the CSL
version.

The BMW M4 CSL – The Engine Is Tuned For Racing
The engine for the BMW M4 CSL is tuned for racing.
The 3.0-liter engine has a sleeve-free crankcase and closed-deck construction
that improves durability. The crankshaft is forged and lightweight so that the
engine to reach and handle extremely high revs of torque. Interestingly, the
cylinder head core is made using 3D printing technologies as this adds another
M-specific feature to the BMW M4 CSL.

The 2023 BMW M4 CSL has some
changes in both cooling and oil supply systems. They are designed with track
driving in mind. So that, the M4 CSL can endurance all challenges on the race
track.
The BMW M4 CSL – Exhaust System
The BMW M4 CSL has a
twin-tailpipe exhaust system. It has electronically controlled flaps. The rear
silencers are made of titanium which saves some weight. All of that has to
provide a pure racing-car experience.

The BMW M4 CSL – Transmission / Gearbox
The BMW M4 CSL has an 8-speed M
Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. Using the gearbox the drive torque is
distributed to the rear wheels. According to the racing spirit of the M4 CSL,
both the engine and the transmission mountings are model-specific. This ensures
fast and direct power distribution.

The BMW M4 CSL - Chassis
The BMW M4 CSL has improvements in body
rigidity and model-specific chassis technology. The composition of front-end
strut braces is developed from scratch. Thus the body rigidity is raised. The
geometry of the cast aluminum elements between the spring strut towers and the
front end is precisely adapted to the forces exerted in different driving situations.

The BMW M4 CSL – Suspension Settings and Handling
The driving handling of the 2023 M4 CSL has
significant improvement. The steering precision is optimized thanks to
individually tuned axle kinematics, model-specific wheel camber settings,
dampers, auxiliary springs, and anti-roll bars. All these settings also affect
the transmission of lateral control forces when cornering, spring and damping
response, and wheel location.
Compared to the BMW M4 Competition Coupé, the 2023 M4 CSL is 8 mm lower
due to model-specific wheel suspensions. The standard equipment list of the BMW
M4 CSL includes special-edition adaptive M suspension with electronically
controlled dampers, electromechanical M Servotronic steering with variable
ratio, and continues with the M Carbon ceramic brakes.
What Is The Tire Size Of The BMW M4 CSL?
The BMW M4 CSL comes with forged M light-alloy wheels in an exclusive
cross-spoke design. 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear. The tire size
is 275/35/ZR19 at the front and 285/30/ZR20 at the rear.

The BMW M4 CSL – M Traction Control Settings
The M Traction Control on the BMW M4 CSL is optimized for the track. It
comes as a standard feature on the M4 CSL and it’s also model-specific. The M
Traction Control on the BMW M4 CSL has 10 different stages. On dry surfaces,
stages 1 to 5 help for controlled drifts. Stages 6 to 10 are for touring car
races as they make allowance for both surface conditions and tire temperature
for maximum traction and directional stability.

The BMW M4 CSL – A Racing Car For Daily Usability?!
Having a sports car like the 2023 BMW M4 CSL is a cool experience to
enjoy during the weekends on the race tracks. But having a racing car in daily
usability sounds very good but does it is? Here is what the 2023 M4 CSL offers
in this matter.
Although the BMW M4 CSL can be used as a daily car, you have to be aware
of some model-specific features that might limit the comfort. As you know the
front M Carbon Full bucket seats are made of CFRP – Carbon Fiber Reinforced
Plastic. The bucket seats mean that they come with a fixed backrest angle –
it’s what it is. Seat adjustment forward and back is only manual. The seat
height can only be adjusted in a workshop using a 3-stage screw linkage. The M
Carbon full bucket seats have detachable head restraints that allow the
integration of a 6-point belt system.

The interior of the 2023 BMW M4 CSL is specified by the M Alcantara
steering wheel, anthracite-colored headliner, and Carbon Fiber interior trim
strips. The “CSL” badges are placed on the seats, on the center console, and on
the rear panel. The M4 CSL interior features include M-specific
displays. The Merino leather comes as standard altogether with the M seat
belts. Instead of rear seats, there is a special place for two helmets inside
the BMW M4 CSL.

The BMW M4 CSL comes with BMW Live Cockpit
Professional as standard. This includes an instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch
diagonal display and a 10.25-inch control display. BMW Live Cockpit
Professional includes BMW Maps, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant,
smartphone integration, telephony with wireless charging, and a Wi-Fi
interface. Optionally, the M4 CSL could be equipped with the BMW Head-Up
Display with M-specific elements plus the BMW Drive Recorder. It’s interesting
does the BMW Drive Recorder can record video while driving on the race track
for further analysis after the performance sessions?

Additionally to the overall driving experience with the BMW M4 CSL,
there is the M-specific control/operation system that includes the M Steup
Button. The M Setup Button gives direct access to the vehicle settings. On the
M steering wheel, there are two other M buttons for storing preferred
configurations. The M Drive Professional system includes M Drift Analyser, M
Laptime, and the M Mode button for different driving setting as Road, Sport,
and Track.

BMW keeps only the essential comfort and driver assistance system for
the 2023 BMW M4 CSL to save weight. The M4 CSL comes with automatic
climate control, Park Distance Control, Front Collision Warning, Lane Departure
Warning, and Speed Limit Info as standard. Optionally available extras are the
two-zone automatic climate control, an alarm, and the Driving Assistant and
Parking Assistant systems.
With all of this information about the
comfort features inside the new BMW M4 CSL, it doesn’t seem like a car for
day-to-day driving.

Having 1 out of 1000 BMW M4 CSL is always a very good
investment. There are a bunch of questions about
what racetrack analysis tools you can use with the M4 CSL. Although the BMW M4
CSL could be used daily, I do consider it to be kept just for the race track.
Having an M4 CSL for the race track only more weight could be saved by removing
the comfort and driver assistance systems. With almost fixed front seats and
without rear seats the BMW M4 CSL won't be a very good option for day-to-day
driving. Enjoy!
