Protected by Audi A8 L Security

The Audi A8 L Security is long as the conventional model – 5.27 m (17.3 ft.). The two A8s haven’t a lot of visual differences. But if you have keen eye you will recognize which is armored one.

The Audi A8 L Security has two high-end engines. The 4.0 TFSI V8 engine produces 435 hp (320 kW) from 1,500 to 5000 rpm. It delivers 600 Nm (442.5 lb.-ft.) of torque. The acceleration from 0-100 km (0-62 mph) is for 7.5 sec. The fuel consumption is 10.9l/100 km (21.6 mpg) and 254g/km of CO2 (408.8 g/mi).

The W12 engine is naturally aspirated. It has 500 hp (358 kW) and 625 Nm (461 lb.-ft.). Audi A8 L Security with this engine accelerates for 7.1 sec. It’s 4 sec faster than the V8 engine. The fuel consumption of the W12 is 13.5l/100 km (17.4 mpg) and emits 314 g/km (505.3 g/mi) of CO2.

The top speed is limited at 210 km/h (130 mph) for both versions.

The chassis is developed in order to handle the heavy weight of the A8 L Security. It’s also concerns to the brakes and electronic control system. This Audi has adaptive air suspension with control damping. Thus the driver is able to choose the exact driving mode of many different technical modes.

The tires which the new Audi A8 L Security wears are special. Their size is 255/720 and has a high load index – 177. The rims have polymer rings which allow driving up to 80 km/h (50 mph) with flat tire. The tires pressure monitoring system is available as standard.

The new A8 L Security is made by lightweight aluminum. It is an Audi Space Frame (ASF) construction which has to low weight. The A8 L Security is built together with Neckarsulm (the Audi Plant) and a high secure manufacturing plant by specially trained employees. The time which is needed to produce special parts for the A8 L Security is around 450 work hours. A lot of details for the most secure Audi A8 are handmade. Only the final process of the assembly is on the production line.

The Audi A8 L Security received certificate from a German ballistic agency. It covers requirements of VR 9 ballistics class. These requirements are the most stringent for non-military armored sedans. The Audi A8 L Security`s body and windows must be able to withstand shooting from an assault rifle with NATO armor munitions. The previous Audi A8 L Security fulfilled resistance class VR7.

The body of the new Audi A8 L Security is built by extremely tough and resistant materials. They are aramid fabric, special aluminum alloys and high-end hot formed armor steel - despite its relatively low weight – offers even more protection.

This Audi also has been tested for explosive charges in according to the ERV 2010 (Explosion Resistant Vehicles). Against explosive weapons as military hand grenades the Audi A8 L Security has aluminum side sills incorporate solid ballistic profiles. The floor is also made with special aluminum alloy.

 

In the new Audi A8 L Security you will receive an intercom system which has to connect the people inside the car with the unarmored outside world as standard. This system works with microphones and speakers in the car as well outside the car.

The control units for communication and vehicle electronics have an auxiliary battery. Special guards for the starter battery and fuel tank can also be ordered as option.

Another security feature of the new Audi A8 L Security is emergency exit system. It’s Audi`s patent technology which allows the driver or passenger to open the door by pressing a sealed switch. Then the door could be ejected from the body with a light push. The selective door unlocking is standard equipment. It’s used to securely open doors from inside the new A8.

The A8 L Security has fire extinguisher system. It’s activated at press a button or by heat sensor. In the luggage compartment there are mounted two containers with extinguished agent. It will be flows through pipes which are placed underbody; nozzles spray it into the wheel arches, onto engine room and the fuel tank.

In the protected trunk there are two pressurized cartridges with fresh air. The fresh-air system will be activated with pressing a button. Then the fresh air comes from the air vents. From Audi says that the air is enough to driving through or out of a hazard zone. To protect the people inside the A8 L Security of the infiltration toxic gases the system generates overpressure.

The new Audi A8 L Security has a lot guarding systems. This includes LED signal system for convoy driving, strobe lights, a siren, preparation and installation of analog and digital radio communications with public authorities, permanent telephone installation, accident data logger, additional rear camera and heated windshield with partially heated side windows.

The Audi A8 L Security will be presented at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt on September 15, 2015.
