Ladies and Gentlemen Please Welcome The New 2016 Mercedes E-Class (Part One)

The distinguished four headlights are gone. The new Mercedes E-Class has single–piece headlights. They use high-resolution MULTIBEAM LED technology, each with 84 individually controlled high-performance LEDs. The headlights of the new Mercedes E-Class automatically illuminate the road with bright light. This LED technology has precision-controlled distribution of the light beam. So the other drivers will not be dazzled.

The new Mercedes E-Class looks sportier than its predecessor which looks more aristocratic, especially the model before the facelift. The other differences are that the new E-Class is bigger. The length is increased to 4923 mm (+ 43 mm) / 193.82 in (+ 1.69 in). The wheelbase is 2939 mm (+65 mm) / 115.71 in (+ 2.65 in) long in comparison to the old model.

The tail lights of the new Mercedes E-Class are with a segment less than the S-Class. The tail lights are also LED and little bit smaller than the flagman. The whole structure of the rear end of the E-Class is almost similar to the S-Class ones.

The first engines which are available for the Mercedes E-Class start with model E200. It has 2.0L 4-cylinder petrol engine with 184 hp and 300 Nm (221.27 lb-ft.). From 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) the E 200 stops the watch at 7.7 seconds.

The E220 d is all new 4-cylinder diesel engine. It is shorter and more compact than its predecessor thanks to reduced cylinder spacing 90 mm (previous 94mm) / 3.54 in (prev. 3.70 in). Although the new engine is reduced with about two litters the power of the new E220 d engine is 195 hp.

The new diesel engine for the Mercedes E-Class E 220 d has single stage turbocharging and variable turbine geometry. The cylinder head and the crankcase are made of aluminum. Mercedes-Benz developed a surface coating which reduces the friction between the cylinder surface and the steel piston called NANOSLIDE.

Mercedes will add more model variants after the market launch of the new Mercedes E-Class. One of them is 4-cylinder diesel unit with 150 hp. Other models are E 350 e model using hybrid technology. This PLUG-IN HYBRID technology allowing the new E 350 e model to be drove around 30 kilometers with electric drive. The internal combustion engine of the E 350 e model is 4-cylinder and uses petrol. The power which it produces is 279 hp and 600 Nm (442.54 lb-ft.) of torque.

There is new 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission as standard for all models. It enables fast gear changes and allows low engine revs.

The new Mercedes E-Class is full with technologies. The Saloon (Sedan) version will be equipped with steel suspension as standard. But the Mercedes E-Class can be equipped with multi-chamber air suspension. The new Mercedes E-Class will be the only car in its segment which offers this option. The control of the air suspension will be separate at three stages thanks to three chambers of different size in the spring struts of the rear axle and two in the spring struts of the front axle. The clearance of the new E-Class could be increased by pushing a button. This will be very useful when driving on rough roads or access roads. Other function which is available with this air suspension is that the clearance could be decreased automatically. This is useful on highways. The E-Class will be lowered and will be more stable on the road. Furthermore, thus the fuel consumption will be also decreased and all of these are thanks to the AIR BODY CONTROL.

The new Mercedes E-Class has DYNAMIC SELECT switch in the cockpit. This button enables the driver to choose from four AIR BODY CONTROLS modes: “Comfort”, “ECO”, “SPORT” and “SPORT+”. There is also an option for “Individual” adjustments.

Active Brake Assist will be offered as standard in the new E-Class. This system has to warn the driver in case that there is impending crisis situation. Active Brake Assist could make brake effort if it’s necessary.

Mercedes-Benz wants to introduce their next step in the autonomous driving. The new E-Class could keep distance from the front vehicle. This system is called DRIVE PILOT. It also could follow the traffic up to 210 km/h (130 mph). This function could be very useful in cortege driving. Moreover, the new Mercedes E-Class could change the lines autonomously because of DRIVE PILOT. It also follows and the traffic behind your new Mercedes E-class. When you make an indication as switch on the turn indicator the E-Class will make the maneuver if there isn’t a car. If there is a vehicle the system will wait until the line is free.

This is the end of part one.  To the Part Two.
