Why don’t you buy Mazda?

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) reported the sales for December and full-year 2017. December 2017 had 26 selling days versus 27 in December 2016 and the result is 26,893 vehicles sold. It’s a decrease of 6.5% in comparison with December 2016. On the Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis, the company also posted a decrease of 2.9%.

The full sales both fleet and retail for 2017 are totaling 289,470 which -2.8% versus 2016. It sounds like an excuse but in 2017 there were 306 selling days in comparison with 2016 with 305 selling days. The full-year DSR represented a decrease of 3.1 percent.

Why don’t you buy Mazda? What did you bought in 2017?





MNAO reported that they continued to significantly reduce fleet sales with 11,346 sales for 2017. It’s a decrease of 44.3% year-over-year. MNAO posted that retail-only sales for 2017 are 278,124 units sold, 0.2% increase.

The Mazda CX-5 has record sales in December, and mark its best-ever month since first on sale in February 2012. For the CX-5 that’s tenth best-ever month in 2017 and marks an increase of 17.6% on year-over-year basis. In December 2017 Mazda CX-5 has 14,097 units sold. After the introduction of 2017 Mazda CX-5 in March, 127,563 vehicles were sold for 2017. It marks an increase of 13.7% year-over-year and sets a new-year record versus 2016.

The good news comes with the Mazda CX-9 which has 26.3% growth on year-over-year basis. For December 2017, 3,276 CX-9 models were sold. For calendar year 2017, the Mazda CX-9 has 25,828 units sold which an increase of 60.9%.

The Mazda MX-5 Miata has 493 units sold for December 2017 and 32% down versus December 2016. The MX-5 has 11,294 units sold for 2017 and marks an increase of 19.3%.

Mazda marks domination of the crossover vehicle sales on the U.S. market. Mazda CX-3, Mazda CX-5 (The Tested 2015 Mazda CX-5) and Mazda CX-9 make an increase of 16.8% in December. The total sales of Mazda’s CX-line for 2017 are 169,746 units sold which is plus 15.6%.





Here is something which I didn’t see on others maker’ sales report. Mazda reports that i-ACTIVE All-Wheel Drive system makes 59.9% growth. The -ACTIVE All-Wheel Drive system is optional equipment which means that buyers choose this option and pay extra for it. This year I still didn’t see another maker which post a sales report for optional equipment. That’s cool.

Moreover, MNAO reported that the sales of Certified Pre-Owned cars are 3,858 vehicles for December 2017. These sales made an increase of 20.8%. MNAO reported that they sold 43,730 Certificated Pre-Owned vehicles for 2017 which is 17% growth.

There is something wrong in Mexico… Mazda Motor de Mexico sales reports say that for December 2017 5,619 vehicles were sold. It’s 16% down in comparison with December 2016. Total sales for 2017 in Mexico are 54,163 representing a decrease of 1% versus 2016.
